Embedding Lived Experience - Rhiannon Hamilton

Embedding Lived Experience

Presented by Rhiannon Hamilton

Thursday, 29 October 2026, from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm (AEST)

As more workplaces seek to embed lived experience, opportunities emerge to strengthen not only inclusion, but workplace culture, learning and connection. While lived experience may be represented through designated roles, consultation processes or participation opportunities, meaningful embedding invites something deeper. It asks how lived experience knowledge, values and ways of being can enrich workplace culture, strengthen connection and learning, and influence decision-making and everyday practice.

This session introduces ideas relating to purposeful disclosure, story stewardship and organisational readiness, creating space to explore how lived experience knowledge is shared, received and responded to within workplaces and communities. Together, we will consider what it means to invite lived experience into a space, how we hold it well, and how it can contribute to learning, reflection and meaningful change.

Rather than offering a single roadmap, this presentation invites curiosity about the opportunities, challenges and tensions that can arise when embedding lived experience within organisations and communities. It offers a starting point for ongoing conversations about how lived experience can influence culture, practice and systems, and how we might continue developing this work together.

Rhiannon Hamilton leads the LEx (Lived Experience) Training Hub at the Mental Health Council of Tasmania, a role that brings together her background in peer work, social work studies and creative writing. She came to this work following five years with the Butterfly Foundation as a peer worker.

Rhiannon has long been drawn to storytelling in all its forms, to lived experience in all its forms, and to the places where the two meet. She is curious about how lived experience can be meaningfully embedded within organisations, not only through structures and strategy, but through conversations, relationships, culture and everyday practice.

Through her work with the LEx Hub, Rhiannon supports the development of Tasmania's lived experience workforce and works alongside organisations to strengthen their readiness for meaningful lived experience inclusion.
