Diagnosing PTSD

How is PTSD diagnosed?

A diagnosis can be considered when someone’s symptoms continue for at least a month after the event, or when delayed symptoms emerge (sometimes months later).

There are detailed, specific criteria used to make a diagnosis of PTSD in the Tasmanian workers compensation system.

PTSD can only be diagnosed through a structured mental health assessment with a medical practitioner, psychiatrist or clinical psychologist.
