This session aims to:
- Create an opportunity for attendees to meet, engage and network with the Office of the Chief Inspector of Mines, Inspectorate Team outside the usual workplace environment
- Provide attendees with an overview of current legislation setup
- Alert attendees to forthcoming changes in the Mining legislation
- Inform attendees (in simplified terms) of key features
- Advise attendees of more information and links on the WorkSafe Tasmania website
- Answer immediate questions where possible and take them on notice.

Presenter: Willard Zirima, Chief Inspector of Mines, WorkSafe Tasmania
Willard Zirima is a hands-on Mining Engineer, certified Rock Mechanics Engineering practitioner (Geotechnical Engineer) and now on the Regulator side of the fence in Tasmania. Willard has nearly 40 years of mining experience, having progressed from the mining shop floor in the early 1980’s, through mine production, management and technical roles after completing university.
As a hands-on professional with experience in Australia and overseas, Willard is driven by passion, ambition and eagerness to influence positive change and outcomes in challenging workplaces and people’s lives and wellbeing.
