The code of practice for Healthcare and Social Assistance:
- provides practical guidance on how to manage health and safety risks in healthcare and social assistance settings, including client handling, aggression, fatigue and psychosocial hazards
- applies to all workplaces where healthcare or social assistance is provided, and to anyone involved in delivering care or support
- explains risk management, including how to identify hazards, assess risks and put appropriate controls in place
- covers specific hazards and control measures, such as infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, safe use of medical equipment, and clinical‑environment risks
- covers other hazards and control measures, including ventilation, personal protective equipment (PPE), workplace design, worker consultation and safe systems of work
- covers emergency preparedness and incident response, including developing and maintaining effective procedures
- covers health monitoring where required, such as monitoring exposure to biological or chemical hazard.
